History and present
The Golden Lion Hotel is situated in the historical centre of Havlíčkův Brod, on Havlíčkovo Square.
The hotel is located on the northern part of the square in the third house on the right, number 176. In former times there used to be the original guesthouse called the Golden Lion, with first written records dating back to the year 1559, operating until the 1920-ies.
History
1559 – The Golden Lion guesthouse is first mentioned.
1634 – this year Jan Rudolf Trčka of Lipa, the owner of the town and the last member of his family, was thought to have spent the last days of his life here.
1836 – The emperor Ferdinand V. Dobrotivý with his wife stayed here on his way from the last Czech king’s coronation.
1920 – The Golden Lion guesthouse was closed down.
2002 – The present owners bought the house and completely restored it. It is ready to continue its hundred years of tradition.
1 April 2004 – opening ceremony of the newly reconstructed Golden Lion Hotel
– we were honored to have entertained Mr. Petr Pithart, a chairman of the Czech Senate, and the Japanese Ambassador in the Czech Republic.
Location
Havlíčkův Brod: city referred to as the baroque jewel of Posázaví. The city center was declared a city monument zone. Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary from the 13th century.
Havlíček Borová: monument to Karel Havlíček Borovský located in his birthplace. Church of St. Víta - dominant of the village, but also of the entire local region.
Chotěboř: Castle with exhibition of the city museum. The admired trail "Valley of the Doubrava River" runs near the city.
Ledeč nad Sázavou: Castle from the first half of the 13th century.
Lipnice nad Sázavou: The dominant feature is the castle above the town, which belongs to our largest Gothic castles. Jaroslav Hašek Memorial in Hašek's house.
Přibyslav: Municipal monument zone. Castle from 1560 with an exhibition of the Fire Museum. Gothic tower from. 1497.
Light above Sázavou: Castle from 1567 with a castle park. Nature reserve Stvořidla on the river Sázava.
Žďár nad Sázavou: UNESCO - Church of St. Jan Nepomucký on Zelená hora, a pilgrimage church built in 1719-1722 in the Baroque Gothic style by Jan Blažej Santini-Aichl.
Arrival by car from Prague:
on the D1 motorway towards Brno, at 90 km exit from the motorway towards Humpolec, from Humpolec still on the road No.34 to Havlíčkův Brod (about 20 km); total 110 km.
Arrival by car from Brno:
D1 motorway towards Prague, at 112 km exit from the motorway towards Havlíčkův Brod
and along road 38 to Havlíčkův Brod (about 18 km); 116 km in total.
Public transport
The Havlíčkův Brod train station (15 min. walk) is an important railway junction. Bus station (12 min. walk).
